HBP or hepato biliary and pancreatic cancer is the cancer that affects the pancreas, liver, gall bladder and bile duct. The symptoms are very subtle so a very high level of expertise is required to diagnose HBP.
Symptoms of HBP-
- Discomfort in the abdomen
HBP Cancer Spread/risk factors:
People with an alcoholic liver, hepatitis C, hepatitis B are at a very high risk of liver cancer. People with BMI more than 30, smokers, sedentary lifestyle, obesity are prone to pancreatic cancer
Prevention and Screening:
CT scan, MRI with MRCP or Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) biopsy is carried out for liver cancer screening. Spyglass cholangioscopy is conducted to diagnose pancreatic and bile duct cancer.
HBP is usually managed with surgery and chemotherapy, trans armamentarium, laparoscopic pancreatic resections, and stents if cancer is in a very advanced stage. Surgery should be done by a skilled oncosurgeon as it is a very complex and critical surgery.
