Breast CancerBreast cancer most commonly affects women, but men too can get breast cancer. Cancer is the abnormal growth of cells of the breast. There are different types of breast cancers, if diagnosed at an early stage can be treated by medication or breast removal called mastectomy.

Types of Breast Cancers are:

  1. Infiltrating ductal carcinoma
  2. Invasive lobular carcinoma
  3. Phylloides tumor
  4. Angiosarcoma
  5. Recurrent breast cancer
  6. Paget’s disease of the breast
  7. Inflammatory breast cancer

Symptoms

  • Dimpling on the breast skin
  • Areola gets pigments and may peel or become flaky
  • The size, shape of the breast changes
  • A new inverted nipple
  • A lump in the breast
  • Redness of skin

The most common risk factors for breast cancer are:

Breast cells begin to grow and multiply rapidly and abnormally, causing breast cancer. Studies and research show that genetic factors, environment and lifestyle are the cause of cancer.

  • Women
  • Obesity
  • Family History
  • Personal history, if you have in one breast, there are chances of breast cancer in the other breast
  • Genetic
  • If you are older
  • If you never had pregnancies
  • Delivering a baby after 30 years of age
  • Exposed to radiations
  • Getting your periods before 12 years of age
  • Late menopause
  • HRT or hormone replacement therapy after menopause
  • Consuming alcohol

Prevention

  • Breast screening and mammograms
  • Limit alcohol
  • Exercise 5 times a week for 30 min
  • Healthy diet
  • Healthy weight
  • Learn self-breast examination
  • Reduce HRT post menopause
  • Preventive surgery
